Madeline W Barnes, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Davenport, Iowa, at the age of 101. She was born on October 11, 1923, in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Barnes, and her parents, Catherine and Ross Waffle. Madeline was a loving mother survived by her children, Catherine (Rod) Ellis, Jane (Ed) Cranston, Marcia Barnes, and James (Kathy) Barnes, as well as her grandchildren, Jim (Heather) Ellis, Maggie (Luke) Terry, Tom (Summer) Cranston, Sarah Huff, Molly and Mathew Barnes and seven great-grandchildren.
Madeline attended Owosso High School in Owosso, Michigan, and later graduated from Michigan State University, where she studied English education. A lifelong Catholic, Madeline attended Saint John Vianney Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary association, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and the American Association of University Women. Most recently she was a member of PEO.
Madeline loved to play bridge, talk with friends, and vacation in Michigan at the family cottage. She was a great cook and maintained a gracious home. Madeline loved to read and discuss world events with those who shared her interests. Even at 101, everyone who knew her enjoyed her sense of humor. Madeline will be dearly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Saint John Vianney Church, located at: 4097 18th St, Bettendorf, IA.
