Marcella E. Eckermann

Marcella E. Eckermann, 98, of Eldridge, died Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, IA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Online condolences may be left at www.therungemortuary.com.

Marcella was born December 18, 1912 in Clinton County, IA, the daughter of Matthew and Viona (Kallenbauch) Cooper. She married Melvin H. “Red” Eckermann on April 26, 1943 in Davenport; he preceded her in death in 1979.

Marcella and her husband farmed in Scott County for close to fifty years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and loved cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her brother, Joe D. Cooper, Davenport; three nephews and many great and great-great nephews and nieces. Her parents, nephew, Gary Cooper, brothers Donald and William and a sister, Geraldine Wyatt preceded her in death.
