

Marcella M. Glaspie, 90, of Davenport, died Friday, September 28, 2012 at her son’s home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 pm at the mortuary.
Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com
Marcella was born May 4, 1922 to Reuben and Edith (King) VanGorder, in the house that is now a museum for the Chickasaw County Historical Society, which is just back of the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She attended the Greenwood one-room school and graduated from Nashua High School in 1940. Much of her childhood was spent attending church and helping out with weddings. She was a current member of New Life Southern Baptist Church in Davenport.
She married James Glaspie on January 10, 1947 in Kirksville, MO; he preceded her in death on March 24, 1999.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Joseph “Joe” (Georgia) VanGorder; Betty (Rennie) Nelson; James Jr. “Red” (Delores “DeeDee”) Glaspie; John (Sylvia) Glaspie; son-in-law, Billy Medlock; grandchildren: JoAnn VanGorder, Tammy VanGorder, Sonya Weber-Madison, Brian Nelson, Judy “Angel” Fort, James III “Jay” Glaspie, Tiffany Glaspie, Christopher “Chris” Medlock, Dusty Medlock, Eric Medlock, Becky Gould, Brian Wheeler and Bobbi Jo Wheeler, sixteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Her daughter, Alice Medlock and a granddaughter, Ruby Bell preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank Manor Care, Davenport, Heartland Hospice and Pastor Roger Vester for their recent care and suppot.
