Marian Harriet (Finck) Wayland, 96, of Davenport, passed away on February 27, 2021 at Ridgecrest Retirement Village surrounded by her loving family. A service will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 1:00p.m. Visitation will be from noon-1:00. Marian Harriet (Finck) Wayland was born three miles southwest of Durant, IA on a farm on September 9, 1924 to Henrietta (Budelier) and Harry C. Finck. Marian graduated from Durant High School in 1941, attended Rock Island Business College and worked at Container Corporation of America. She married Lloyd E. Wayland on July 1, 1944 at the Post Chapel, Randolph Army Air Field, San Antonio, TX. They were married for 68 years until his death on December 23, 2012.
Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith and family meant everything to her. You would often find her reading her Bible or writing notes to family and friends. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and believed in “loving everyone where they are at.” She found joy in helping and serving others. Marian loved to play bridge and games, especially when family was around. She and Lloyd loved to travel and took many trips both in the US and abroad.
Through the years, Marian worked at Bettendorf Tank Arsenal, Voss Bros. Mfg Co., Yonkers Dept. Store, Bishops Cafeteria, North American Moving and Storage Co., Gary Jansen with New York Life Ins. Co., Louis G. Soenke and Lloyd E. Wayland, Architects and later for her husband Lloyd until her retirement on April 1, 1985. Marian was a member of First Christian Church for many years serving as an Elder, President of Christian Women’s Fellowship and as a member of the U & I Sunday School Class. She was also very involved at Ridgecrest Retirement Village in her later years.
Survivors include her children Linda (George) Davis, Northfield, MN; Cindy (Kevin) Lutringer, Garland, TX; Tim (Trena) Wayland, Windermere, FL and daughter-in-law Melinda Wayland (Jim Gunnerson), Bettendorf, IA. Siblings include Inez Stoltenberg, Davenport, IA; Ruby Ferris, Eldridge, IA. and sister-in-law, Virginette Finck, Cedar Rapids, IA. Grandchildren include Aaron (Missy) Davis, Custer, SD; Amanda Davis (Stacy Sletten), Savage, MN; Bryant Wayland (Breanna Ketelson), Davenport, IA; Sr. Magnificat Rose, Philadelphia, PA; Nicholas Lutringer, New Zealand; Holly (Aaron) Hoenig, Bettendorf, IA; Grant (KariAnne) Wayland, Lakeville, MN; Jaclyn (Cody) Moore, Bryan, TX; and Gabrielle Wayland (Zach Meierhofer), Minneapolis, MN. Great-Grandchildren include Isabella and Penelope Wayland, Lakeville, MN; Bellawulf and Odin Davis, Custer, SD; and Abel Hoenig, Bettendorf, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, in-laws, Earl and Marie Wayland, son, Randy Wayland, her brother, Paul Finck, brother-in-laws Carl Ferris, Irvie Stoltenberg, and Ernie Ploog, and sister-in-law, Fernne Ploog.
