W. Marie Jones, nee Blaesing, 94, of Davenport was born November 2, 1919 in Muscatine, IA. She died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:30 am at the Runge Mortuary with visitation one hour prior to the service, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Good Samaritan Society of Davenport or Hospice Compassus of Davenport. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Mrs. Jones was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. When she was first married, she worked in the credit department of Montgomery Wards, then became a homemaker. In addition to being a loving homemaker, Marie devoted much of her life doing volunteer work outside the home. She volunteered at the Friendly Thrift Center on 3rd Street in Davenport for more than 28 years. She also volunteered at St. Mark Lutheran Church food pantry and the women’s auxiliary at Mercy Hospital. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of nearly fifty years, Edward A. Jones, whom she married November 3, 1940 and who died July 28, 1990; her parents Frank and Mary, nee O’Dell Blaesing; brother, Paul Blaesing and a great grandson, Eric Kendall. Surviving are her daughters, Sue (Mrs. Don) McCormick, Hamel, IL; Jan (Mrs. Russ) Elliott, Milan, IL; son, Doug (Terri) Jones, Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Laura Halweg, Minnesota; nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.
