Mario Joseph Comandatore, 73, of Kewanee, Illinois, passed away on May 16, 2026. He was born on July 14, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Eleanora (Carderelli) and Sam Comandatore. As a teenager, Mario moved to San Jose, California.
While in California, Mario joined the United States Marine Corps and served during Vietnam, including overseas service in Thailand as a hydraulics mechanic on the F4 Phantom jet. Following his military service, he moved to the Quad Cities and became a travelling inspector with Diversified Inspectors, where he remained until his retirement.
A very faithful and devout Christian throughout his life, Mario’s days were grounded in belief and strengthened by the people he loved most. He adored spending time with family, and those closest to him will remember how naturally he made ordinary moments feel special. Mario had the most contagious kind of laughter that could brighten a room; even the thought of it brings joy. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as watching football and baseball, and faithfully rooting for the Cubs.
Mario is survived by his children: Doug (Beth) Tinlin, Michael (Allison) Comandatore, Deana (Mark) Comandatore, Russell Comandatore, and Christopher (Tessa) Comandatore; grandchildren: Zach, Nevada, Nathaniel, Shane, Hannah, Austin, Makayla, Madilyn, Karyssa, and Raelyn; four great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Sam Comandatore and Jimmy Comandatore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathy Comandatore.
Visitation will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service will follow, beginning at 1:00 pm. Mario will be laid to rest at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quad Cities Veterans Outreach Center.
