OBITUARY

Martin Dean Hoyt

August 30, 1951July 11, 2013

Martin Dean Hoyt, 61, of Davenport died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Genesis East Hospital.

A prayer service will be held Sunday, July 14 at 3 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation, where family and friends are invited to share stories and memories, will follow until 6 pm. A memorial mass will be held Monday, July 15 at 1 pm at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.

Marty was born August 30, 1951 to Dean and Lois (Milam) Hoyt in Webster City, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa where he earned a degree in sciences. He spent many years working and traveling as an industrial salesman, though most recently used his knowledge as a maintenance mechanic of industrial equipment.

When not working, he preferred to spend nearly all of his time outdoors. He grew up working on his family farm, spent years refereeing his children’s soccer games, and most recently could be found doing yardwork or enjoying evenings outside on the porch.

He married Margaret (Peg) Hebert in 1978 and the couple had four children, Elijah, Gabriel, Carrie, and Tyler. He was a hard-working husband and father who spent years supporting his kids by driving to countless sport practices and tournaments, passing on his knowledge and life experiences through humorous stories, and driving his family crazy with his seemingly endless sarcasm and dry-witted jokes.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Steven Hoyt and Thomas Hoyt and his father, Dean Hoyt. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peg) Hoyt; children Elijah Hoyt and wife Mendy, Gabriel Hoyt and daughter Abigale, Carrie Hoyt, and Tyler Hoyt, mother Lois Hoyt, sister Cindy Peiffer and husband Duane and brothers David Hoyt and wife Renee, and Timothy Hoyt. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends.

To the family.: My sympathy to your family. I grew up on the same farm that Marty lived on near Jolley. We became good friends and played baseball both with him and on opposing teams. Our dads were good friends as well. I have fond memories of him. We are sorry for your loss.

We are very sorry for your loss. Marty and I went to grade school together and was a neighbor on the farm outside of Jolley, Iowa. I have many memories spending time with Marty, especially playing many years on the Little League and Babe Ruth Teams. Marty was a very good first baseman. Marty and I attended different high schools but still stayed in touch during those years. I feel very sorry about not keeping in touch in the years after. It has been so many years ago, but I feel those early years were just yesterday. He was a very good friend, I am fortunate to have know him and had him as that good friend. He will be missed.
