

Mary E. (Gauley) Lage, 88, of Davenport passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, May 7, 2012, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 109 E. 14th Street, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Mrs. Lage was born February 17, 1924 in Sheffield, Iowa and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1941. On August 24, 1949 she married Paul Lage in Davenport. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1990.
She was employed at Americana Care Center, Davenport for 13 years as head cook and worked for various restaurants after that, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the United Methodist Women, Northern Lights Sunday School Class, and the Widow Support Group. She loved making birthday and wedding cakes and making peanut brittle and toffee for the holidays. She loved to travel, going on many trips all over the world.
Survivors include her daughter, Louise Lage; daughter-in-law Kathy Lage; granddaughter Jennifer Lage; sisters Mildred Seydel, Katherine Gauley, Elsie Vega, Josephine Fletchall, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John, parents, Frank and Emma Gauley, sisters Hazel and Della, and brothers Lawrence, James, and Richard.
