

A memorial service for Mary Jeanette “Jean” Ratkiewicz of Davenport will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17th at the Kahl Home chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16th at the Kahl Home, 6701 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Mrs. Ratkiewicz passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Kahl Home. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary J. Madden was born on March 27, 1918 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of James and Helen (Kerns) Madden. In 1949, she married Joseph Ratkiewicz in Ft. Wayne, IN. Following high school, she attended Aurora University. She served stateside during WWII. Jean worked at Cumberland Bookshelf, where she enjoyed sharing her love of books. She also enjoyed playing piano and treasured spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Ellen Curry of Davenport, Ann (Daniel) Brown of Bettendorf, Michael (Susan) Ratkiewicz of Moline, IL, Paul (Katherine) Ratkiewicz of Blue Grass, IA; a brother, Thomas Madden of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Nick (Ruth) Curry, Katie (Durell) Locke, Tommy (fiancé Troy Stierwalt) Ratkiewicz, Angela (Armando) Pinder, Tyler Owens, Adrianna Gonzales, Brianna Gonzales, Matt (Kristina) Brown, Mike Brown, Alyssa Brown; four great-grandchildren; and three nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1993, son-in-law, Timothy Curry, and sister-in-law, Margaret Madden. Memorials may be directed to the Kahl Home. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Kahl Home for the excellent care and compassion they gave to Mary during her stay.
