Mary Swihart

Mary Swihart, 65, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at The Summit of Coralville. Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Friday, October 9, at Weerts Funeral Home. The funeral service will be directly after, starting at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be left to the family.

Mary was born on September 6, 1961, in Davenport, Iowa, to Mildred Karnes Swihart and Carl Swihart. She was born and raised in Davenport and was the oldest of three children, followed by her sister, Linda and brother, Paul Swihart.

Mary dedicated 45 years to the University of Iowa Student Health before retiring in 2023. For many years, she also worked weekends in the kitchen at Hy-Vee.

Mary was an avid Disney fan and loved sharing that joy with her family through many trips together. She loved to travel, with Disney, the Grand Canyon, and Hawaii among her favorite destinations. She was an enthusiastic collector of precious moments, and in recent years, she found joy in cheering on the Hawkeyes. Mary also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and baking with her nieces and nephew.

Mary is survived by her sister, Linda (Patrick) Bohlander; her sister-in-law, Brenda Swihart; her nieces, Melanie (Josh) Harrison, Tara Stewart, and Jaime (Skye) Bergeson; and her nephew, Zachary Swihart. Mary had many great-nieces and great-nephews, including Lauren, Alexander, and Matthew Ruiz-Stewart; Nash and Hazel Harrison; and Iva and Millie Bergeson, along with extended family and many others who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Paul, and her beloved dog, Amber.

Mary was loved by many, and the memories she created through family vacations, summer swim lessons, time spent baking together, and simply being present in the lives of those she loved will be treasured for years to come. There is comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her brother, Paul, her parents, and other cherished family members who went before her.
