Melvin L. Ballew, 69, Davenport went from labor to reward January 7, 2020.

Born April 9, 1950 in Muscatine, IA, he was the son of Lester Ballew and Patricia Jean Terry. Melvin served in the United States Marine Corps from March 22, 1968 to November 30, 1969. In service to his country Melvin earned a Rifle Marksman Badge, The Purple Heart National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Metal and The Bronze Star with combat valor.

Melvin is survived by daughter Mercedes Clay of Bettendorf, IA; sons Leon (Breianne) Ballew of Des Moines, IA, Martin Ballew of Davenport, IA; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; he is also survived by sisters Betty Hannah of Portland, OR, Leslie Ballew of Des Moines, IA, Jackie Ballew-Beets Cedar Rapids, IA, Patti Terry (Stevie Blackman) of Denver, CO, Sherri Terry of Davenport, IA, Jane Johnson-Dennis of California; brothers James Terry Jr (Kenna) of Davenport, IA, Warne Camp of MN and beloved friend Kris Schneff.

He was preceded in death by mother Patricia Terry and fathers Lester Ballew and James C Terry Sr. Melvin Ballew was awarded The Bronze Star for being a hero during his service to the country and continued performing heroic acts until his passing. He remains a hero to family and friends who celebrate his legacy of giving.
