Melvin Rex Hollister

Melvin Rex Hollister, 90, of Davenport, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Hollister was born October 17, 1921 in Bushnell, Illinois, the son of James M. and Della M. (Putnam) Hollister. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On April 17, 1947 he married Pearl Faramelli in Bloomington, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1997. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1976. His hobbies included boating and shooting at the Arsenal Gun Club.

Survivors include a stepson, Ronald Bellomy; granddaughter, Lia Bellomy; special friend, Stella Babbitt; brother-in-law Joe Verre; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Glen, Don, and Orlin Hollister.
