

Merle Leo Brauer, 67, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, January 24, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery with military services to be conducted by American Legion Post #26. Visitation will be from 5-8PM Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Runge Mortuary. Mr. Brauer was born on February 14, 1943 in Davenport, IA, the son of Wilford and Katherine (Rhodes) Brauer. He married Sheila Kennedy on February 8, 1964 in Davenport. Merle was a proud veteran of the US Navy having served during Vietnam.
Merle worked at Alcoa for 37 years retiring in 2002. While there he had served as the union steward for Local 105 Steelworkers.
Merle liked to collect coins, camp, fish, and socialize with his friends. Working in his yard and garage were his favorite pass times and he was always ready to help others. Merle had a strong love for his country, kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila, Davenport; two daughters, Ann (Matthew) Harrison and Cherie (Thomas) Neuhalfen, Davenport; daughter-in-law, Patricia Brauer, Philadelphia, PA; eight grandchildren, Kala Brauer, Aaron Brauer, Brianne Harrison, Lindsey Harrison, Denielle Brauer, Drew Harrison, Hailey Brauer, Natalee Brauer; step grandchildren, Sam and Lauren Neuhalfen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bill Brauer and David Brauer; daughter, Kimberly Brauer; and grandson, Grey Byron Harrison.
