My Papa was such a funny and magical person to me, always. Hearing about how serious he was in his profession now as I am an adult is so special to me. My Papa was the kind of man in my personal/family life who would convince me to go out to ice cream with him before dinner, who would let me wake up early as a kid and drink all the juice in the fridge and watch movies before anyone else woke up. I remember one Christmas morning where, against my parents wishes, he snooped under the tree with me and my brother, Joel, and we looked at which presents were for who and guessed what they might be. He would always catch my eye in public settings in an attempt to make me laugh. As I've grown from child to young teenager, he always supported my goals and aspirations. I am missing him more than anyone could know as I've begun my college journey. But I see the sort of unfailing support and guidance that he gave me in so many people, friends, family, professors. I miss and admire him, and I hope that everyone who knew him in his profession also got a chance to see a sliver of how funny and magical he could be.

Mike and I were great friends for many years . we met before starting Muscatine Community College and shared a lot of fond memories with our fellow indigenous tribal members from there . Mike did alot for me and my family over the years for which I will always be grateful . He was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. RIP buddy! Geno

I am sorry to learn of Mike's passing.  My condolences to his family.  Mike was friends with my parents, and gave me a picture of them with President Clinton which I cherish.  I met Mike professionally and always enjoyed cases with him and using him as a mediator.  He will be missed.

Mike served as a mediator in several cases for me over the years. He was a class act and a very smart lawyer. I truly enjoyed discussing life (and politics) with him. My condolences to his family.

Mike was  greater person than his stature appeared. His contributions to the legal profession and life in general are incomparable. I owe him a lot for shaping my life. My condolences to Vicki and the family. May he rest in peace.

I met Mike through our mutual friend, Greg Egbers. Mike and I hit it off immediately as I’m sure he did with pretty much everyone. Over the years we became good friends. I would always make it a point to stop to see him every time I was in Davenport. We enjoyed many lunches and dinners over the years. Many times we just hung out and chatted in his office. It was an honor for me when Mike asked me to collaborate with him on what I think was his biggest case at the that time. Mike showed me how important civility and respect were in not only the practice of law but in life in general. He had a knack for putting things in perspective without making it personal. He was a mentor without the lecture. REST IN PEACE my friend.

Mike assisted me when I was a new lawyer in winning a big personal injury case. He taught me how to be a lawyer. He will be missed.

My condolences to the family.  I value the time I worked for him as a paralegal many years ago.  Mike was a great teacher and I considered him a friend.

Mike was very helpful during my time with DPD.  When advised was needed, Mike never hesitated .   RIP good friend.

Mike was a good friend to lawyers; a mentor to new lawyers (including this one!); a great litigator; and an example of civility. He was an advocate for those in need; not afraid to challenge the status quo so that everyone had access to justice; and part of the foundation for the good working relationship between HELP Legal Assistance and the Scott County Bar. He was just so proud of his family -- and that his grandkids like sports, reading and put up with his corny jokes. Our prayers are with Vicki, and all of his family.

Mike was a good friend and a champion for the poor. When I lived in Davenport, he started Legal Services with assistance from Fr. Marv Mottet and support from Karen Fitzsimmons. I loved his good humor and will miss him, as will so many he helped along the way.

I met Mike when I first started practicing law  in Davenport in 1979 and we instantly became close  friends.  
We traveled to South Korea to deliver a settlement check that Mike obtained on behalf of an orphanage home there and we also vacationed  in Mexico one time. 
Mike was the best man in my wedding. 
Mike was a very kind   gentleman,  a devout Democrat and could never say no to anyone that needed help in anyway. 
my prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Sorry for your loss. Mike was a friend of my late husband, Wm. F. Flaherty and was a significant support to me during those tough times. I continued to call upon him for both legal and personal matters. He was a great guy who loved his baseball. I will miss him as will the many others who called him a friend.
