Iretha was born on October 27, 1936, in Greensburg, Louisiana, to Thomas and Carrie Johnson. She married William H. Woods on April 12, 1959, and together they built a loving home and family.
In her early years, Iretha enjoyed dressing up her cat, Tommy, and developed a lifelong love for arts and crafts. Even as a child and teenager, she showed a natural gift for caring for others. She loved entertaining friends and family, was an avid gardener, and took great joy in growing flowers. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Iretha had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and the salvation he provides, and she found great purpose in sharing that faith with others. She was known for her sweet, loving, and gentle spirit, as well as her strong sense of what is right and just. She was a positive influence and example to people from all walks of life.
A devoted wife and mother, Iretha lovingly raised her three sons. After her children grew up, she continued her caring work by volunteering with the Davenport Community School System, supporting children with special needs, as well as volunteering at a local crisis pregnancy center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William H. Woods, who passed away in 2009.
She is survived by her children, John Matthew Woods (Pamela), William Gerard Woods (Karin), and Todd Ethan Woods; her stepdaughter, Linda Woods-Robinson; along with her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
