Morris V. Williams

Funeral services for Morris V. “Mort” Williams, 81, of Davenport and Bettendorf, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial with military honors will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Mr. Williams died on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Trinity Terrace Park in Bettendorf.Morris Vinton Williams was born on January 9, 1931 in Britt, Iowa, the son of Daniel E. and Hazel M. (Mau) Williams. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Air Force. Following his military obligations, he attended Iowa State Teachers College earning his undergraduate degree in teaching. He later continued his education at the University Of Iowa where he earned a graduate degree in education administration. On June 6, 1953, he married Alice M. Herold in Belleville, IL. She preceded him in death in February of 2002. On October 3, of 2003, he married Marilyn J. Hildebrand at the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island, IL.In earlier years, Mort taught elementary education prior to becoming an elementary school principal in the Davenport Public School System. He retired in 1991 after 33 years of service. Mort was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport, a member of the Bettendorf VFW, he served as a volunteer at the Quad City Botanical Center, loved to work with wood, garden and landscape.Surviving members of his family include – his wife: Marilyn of Bettendorf; a Son: Wade H. (Nadine) Williams of DeWitt, IA; a Daughter: Jane M. (Daniel) Mason of Bishop Hill, IL; a Sister: Dolores Cunningham of Portage, MI; 4 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by – his Parents, his wife Alice, his Daughter Laurie in Infancy, a Sister LaVera, and 2 Brothers, Donald and David.A memorial gift will be made to a charity by the family at a later date.
