Nancy R. Snyder

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, at the Runge Mortuary, with visitation being held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations that will be made in Nancy’s honor to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.

Nancy was born September 14th, 1943, to Stan and Mary Stone. She grew up with 4 siblings, Dodie, Don, Pat, and Sue. She graduated from Rock Island High School where she followed in her father’s footsteps playing the clarinet in her high school band. She went on to earn a teaching degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. She taught for a short spell in the Rock Island - Milan School District 41. Wanting to stay home to raise her children, she ran an in-home daycare that was primarily directed toward teachers so she could continue to have her summers free. Later she returned to teaching in Rock Island and also returned to school herself where she earned her Master’s Degree, graduating with honors. She taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Rock Island, IL for 21 years until she retired in 2003.

Nancy married Donald (Don) Snyder at Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA in 1966. Ten months after they were married, Don was drafted into the Army to serve in the Vietnam War for two years. Nancy and Don had three children, James (Jamie), Bethany, and Matthew (Matt). Nancy loved to play bingo, play cards, and go to garage sales and auctions to antique hunt. She was extremely active in her children’s lives volunteering as Cub Scout leader, Blue Bird leader, Sunday School teacher, and in numerous other activities her children participated in. She instilled the value and importance of a good education into her children from a very young age.

Don and Nancy shared a beautiful life together. They were married for almost 58 years until her husband, Don, passed away on March 23, 2024. Their marriage was a role model of love, compromise, support, commitment, friendship, and teamwork. They were constantly laughing and pranking one another. Throughout their life together, they shared a love of gambling trips, antique auctions, and playing cards with friends and family.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Stan; her mother, Mary; her step father, Frosty; her brother, Don; and her sisters Dodie and Pat; and her beloved husband, Don.

Nancy is survived by her children, Jamie Snyder (Treanna), Bethany Drent (Dean), and Matt Snyder (Connie); nine beautiful grandchildren, Aryana Snook (Warren), Madison Leski (Lance), Payton Drent, Taylor Snyder, Jackson Drent, Cameron Snyder, Morgan Drent, Caiden Snyder, and Carter Snyder; and one great granddaughter, Harper Snook. Nancy also leaves behind her sister, Sue, that she loved so dearly, a large extended family, and numerous friends.

The staff at Clarissa Cook is absolutely amazing and made her last couple days on this earth with us as comfortable as possible and we cant thank them enough.
