After serving four years in the Navy during the Korean War Oscar attended university, ultimately earning two master’s degrees. He married Joan Pike on June 10, 1961. Oscar taught math and science at The Lexington School in Lexington, KY, was head of the Upper School at Sayre School in Lexington, Headmaster of The Harvard School in Chicago, and Dean of St. Katherine/St. Marks (now Rivermont Collegiate) in Bettendorf.
Oscar and his wife, Jody, were life-long champions of the Handicapped Development Center n/k/a Empowering Abilities and were inducted into EA’s Hall of Fame in 2016. Oscar served on Empowering Abilities board of directors for over 27 years, providing a parent’s perspective on the importance of what that organization does for individuals in our community. Oscar was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 26 and the Davenport Noon Optimists Club. Oscar is survived by his son Peter and daughter Mary Elisabeth,
Celebration of Life services will be held at noon on Friday October 18th at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, 1200 Middle Road in Bettendorf. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
