Hi, Mama. It's been several months since you been gone. I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss your beautiful smile, your voice, your hugs, just everything about you! I smell your perfume. You are all around me. I think of you every day, sometimes all day, and I speak of you often and always will. "You were my world" and I know in my heart you knew that. We had a bond that no one could touch. "You and Me against the world" song by Helen Reddy.
In the meantime, I decided to share your memories in this book, that I am dedicating to your memory. I could go on and on about you and what you meant to all of us, but, this is a good starter and a reminder of the Wonderful Mother, daughter, daughter-n-law, sister, sister-n-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, a friend and person that was a part of so many lives. I tried to include everyone, so if I left someone out, I apologize. I will see you again My Dearest, Beautiful, Mother! Put a good word into God for me. I MISS YOU TERRIBLY AND I LOVE YOU TO HEAVEN AND BACK, FOREVER. Your beloved daughter, Brenda.

Grandma Pat desperately wanted to meet her great grandson Joshua. She had given him a teddy bear for Christmas last year and it will surely be a gift Joshua will cherish from his great grandmother for years to come. Even though she's no longer with us she will always be with Joshua in spirit. I wish I could've had the chance to meet you Grandma! We'll always remember you and you will never be forgotten! Joshua will do things in his life that will make you proud. You will always be watching over him and keeping him safe! Rest with the angels Abuela, we love you forever and always

With love,
Gina & Joshua

Our beloved mother Patricia J. Chavez, Odom, Martin, 76, of Walcott, IA, went to join the love of her life, Raymond Martin, on July 3, 2018. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 @ 12:00 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary Chapel with a visitation held @ 10:00 a.m. that morning.

Patricia was born January 2, 1942 in Moline, IL. She is the daughter of Jose and Alma Chavez. On February 27th, 1960, she married William J. Odom in Dekalb, IL and later divorced on November 1, 1971. She was united with Raymond Martin on August 1, 1992 in Davenport, and were together until Ray passed April 6, 2004.

Patricia grew up with four siblings. She had three sisters, Mary Barnhart, Linda Grooms, Rita Hesser and one brother, Jose Chavez Jr. Patricia was a person who genuinely understood and cared for others, making powerful connections with those she knew. Patricia demonstrated strong qualities of self-confidence, perceptive ability and a disposition that was enjoyable to those around her. When she was young, Patricia's friends and family found that “straightforward” and “honest” were perfect words to describe her. She was even-tempered, taking care not to get involved in any family conflicts. Patricia carried these traits into her adult life

Many things can be said about Patricia J. Odom. Known to friends and acquaintances as a friendly, energetic, empathic and decisive woman, her compassionate nature would always shine through, revealing her charm, warmth and conscientious demeanor. She was warmhearted, gentle and in all the things she sought to accomplish. Patricia was a mentor, a natural "spirit" capable of seeing things clearly, leading others and bringing out the best in all of those around her. She generally had a focus on harmony and peace.

Compassionate and devoted, Patricia worked hard to make her family happy. She was always generous with her time and this meant that Bill came first in Patricia’s book. She was always caring and made certain that she considered Bill’s feelings. By trusting her emotions, Patricia did her best to make sure that both the marriage and home life ran smoothly. This is just one more example of how Patricia was truly a person of empathy.

Because she was organized and methodical, Patricia took great pleasure in her various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were making flower arrangements, and had such a way with lifeless plants & flowers. She was an excellent cook and could bake like no other. She loved to garden, and had a particular way of stamp collecting, and dancing, oh, dancing, she knew how to get her groove on. She loved music of any kind, but, Elvis Presley, he was her # 1. Her favorite Holidays included, Christmas, Easter, and 4th of July. She made every holiday eventful and memorable, nothing was off limits. She wanted her children to have it all. Patricia's love of Angels and God was to be admired. The color "purple" was her favorite color. And, where ever she would go, people let her know it. Patricia was beautiful and enjoyed sharing her passions with others.

Patricia enjoyed traveling, and because she was so well organized, her gift for keeping things lively meant that vacations with Patricia were always enjoyable. She travelled to Louisiana with Ray to their vacation home and to spend time with Ray's family. Her other adventures were in Michigan, Wisconsin, Memphis, Canada, Pennsylvania, New York, and her last trip was to Las Vegas, Memorial Day weekend, 2018, with her daughter Brenda and nephew(son) Dixson to visit her sister Rita & her husband Dale Hesser (Pat's brother-n-law) and Pat's second family. In retirement, she found new pleasure in running a tattoo shop with the love of her life, Ray and made plenty of new acquaintances.

Patricia’s quality of being a caring and tolerant person who was very accepting of others translated to being a wonderful mother to her children. Patricia shared these values with her five children, Those left to honor and cherish her beautiful memory, include daughters and son-n-laws: Teresa and Juaquin Torres, Davenport, IA. Brenda and Mike Buehneman, Sigourney, IA. Patricia’s sons: Curtis Odom and Theresa Saldivar, Davenport, IA. Dale Odom and Mari Caballero-Odom of Wood River, IL. Ken Odom and Karen Carstensen (Significant other), Coralville, IA. A sister: Rita and Dale Hesser of Las Vegas, NV. Patricia’s grandchildren and great grandchildren: Christopher Danielsen of Eldridge, IA. Robert Danielsen of Moline, IL. Chad and Ashley Odom and their two sons, Elias and Amari of Davenport, IA. Kelli and Ryan Antle III and their daughters, Aliveah, Abbigayle, Ryah, Bettendorf, IA. Branden Lee Skinner (Odom) and son Joshua of Alba, Texas. Cody Odom of Wood River, IL. Jennifer Dipple (Odom) and her children, Alexia, Lilliane, Luckuas. David, Daniel, Selena Stallman of Wood River, IL. Ryan Andersen (Odom) and daughter Presley of MI, Kyle Odom of MI, Alyssa Odom of Las Vegas, NV. Patricia also adopted her nephews, Dixson & Ringo Barnhart of Davenport, IA, and became her sons. Her nieces, Cheryl Hernandez of Las Vegas, NV and Tylene Cody of San Diego, CA, became her two adopted daughters. They loved and cared for Patricia after their mother passed. Patricia also, had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, great nieces, great nephews and great cousins that were there for her as well. She had enough love for the whole world.

She had liver disease and it turned cancerous in 2013.    Being the focused and organized person that she was, Patricia had taken care to plan for this part of her life. When that time eventually arrived, Patricia knew exactly what she wanted. It was her wish to be in the comfort of her home and with her children by her side, and her wish was granted. Patricia held her own for many years and did not let cancer define her. Patricia had such valor in the end.

In addition to her husband Raymond, she is preceded in death by her parents Jose & Alma Chavez, two sisters Mary Barnhart, Linda Grooms and her brother Jose Chavez Jr., and a great grandson Maysun Odom.

Throughout her life, Patricia's children were her "Pride & Joy". Her grandchildren and great children were the light of her life. Patricia is "loved" now, always, and will forever be a part of who we are and what we will become. She will always be a part of our hopes and dreams as we move forward without her. Patricia leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and cherished memories. We will meet again, and until then, 'WE LOVE YOU AND LIFE IS NOT THE SAME WITHOUT YOU HERE". We will blow you butterfly kisses, so be sure to catch them. Everyone whose lives she touched & loved so passionately will dearly remember Patricia J. Odom.
