Born on February 6, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, Patty was the daughter of Ethel (Brower) and Beuford Thompson. She graduated from Keota High School.
Patty met Dee Potsander at a TV repair shop in Keota, where they both worked. They were married on June 4, 1967, in Wellman, Iowa. Together they built a life centered on family, finding their greatest happiness in time spent with their four children and their grandchildren.
A devoted mother and homemaker at heart, she had a deep passion for children and treasured the opportunity to care for and guide them. She spent several years working in the childcare field, at one point even opening her home to provide care for other families.
For Patty, her dedication to children was more than an occupation—it was a vocation. She spent many years serving as a Sunday School teacher, volunteering at the Pine Street High youth group, and eventually serving as the Church School Superintendent. She was a longtime member of Christ Methodist Church.
Patty’s devotion to guiding young hearts and minds was rooted in her own playful and joyous nature. She was silly, funny, and quick to laugh. It was well understood that seating her with the other girls in the family at church could only lead to “trouble,” the kind born of laughter and too much fun.
Patty’s greatest gift was the love she shared for those around her—a love that left a profound impact on anyone it reached. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth that will be remembered fondly.
Those left to carry on her legacy include her beloved husband, Dee Potsander; children, Shawn (Barbara Roche) Potsander, Angela (Bill) Herrington, Ryan (Jessica) Potsander, and Justin Potsander; and her grandchildren, Amanda Herrington, Andrew "AJ" Herrington, Emma Potsander, Eliana Potsander, Edith Potsander, and Roman Potsander.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents.
