Paul E. Nielsen

Paul E. Nielsen, 75, of DeWitt, IA passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt Campus. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Paul was born June 4, 1936 in Davenport, the son of Harry and Frieda (Schlueter) Nielsen. He served in the US Air Force. He married Marilyn Crawford on July 26, 1958 in Davenport. Paul was an estimator engineer for several area companies including: Rock Island Bridge Iron Works, the Henry Schaeffer Co., Design Build Associates, now Ryan Company.

He was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Noon Kiwanis Club, both of Davenport and First Congregational Church in DeWitt. Paul loved golfing, gardening and acrylic painting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marilyn, DeWitt; daughter, Susan (Darren) Dobbs, Delmar, IA; son, Matthew (Nancy), Bettendorf; grandchildren: Sarah and Ryan Dobbs and Emily Nielsen and many extended family members.

His parents, son, Robert, brother, William and a sister in infancy preceded him in death.
