Preston E. Schmidt

Preston E. Schmidt, 73, of Davenport joined his family in heaven on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 after a brief illness and full life. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Preston was born on September 17, 1943 in Davenport the son of John and Maria (Boeghter) Schmidt. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968 in Rantoul, IL, Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska, South Korea, Thailand, Okinawa, and Azores. He retired from the City of Bettendorf as a supervisor of vehicle maintenance after 30 years of service. He enjoyed his political view and he was a staunch patriot. Preston was member of the VFW and Bettendorf Volunteer Fire Department. He took great pleasure in his children and grandchildren’s athletic achievements. Preston loved to travel, driving across the country, usually with one of his dogs by his side. Those celebrating his life include his children: Preston E. (Sonia) Schmidt II, Canyon Lake, CA; Doreen (Rob) Meyncke, Cave Creek, AZ; and David (Angelika) Schmidt, Bettendorf; grandchildren: Melissa, Natalie, Brayden, Bailey, Madeline, Keegan and Kane; the mother of his children, Kay Kuehnhackl, Cave Creek, AZ; loving companion, Linda Whitington, Davenport. Preston was preceded in death by his parents, Siblings John, Marvin Sr., Jack, Oscar, Mary, Ella, Georgia and May.
