Ray was born on January 17, 1936, in Davenport to Raymond and Virginia Engel. He graduated from Davenport High School, where he met and married the love of his life, Carol Jacobs. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2022.
Ray was a proud Marine, stationed at Twentynine Palms, obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He later became a prominent business owner, owning Ray Engel Construction Co., leaving a lasting footprint by building beautiful homes in the Quad Cities and surrounding area. Ray and Carol had a passion for travel, their favorite trips being to South Africa and Fort Myers Beach. Providing family vacations was something Ray looked forward to every year.
Ray was a man of few words, never complained, easy-going, and had a heart of gold. He loved to spend his time reading and watching movies. Above all, he loved being surrounded by his family. Our hero will never be forgotten.
Raymond is survived by his children, Pam (Larry) Prunchak, Scott (Christi) Engel, Sherri (Ron) Stebniski, and Jill and Joe Dankert; grandchildren: Zac, Nick, Michael, Danny, Kelsey, Karly, Courtney, Anna, and Jack; four great grandchildren: McKenzie, Logan, Carson, and Luke; and a brother, Michael Engel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; a sister, Rhea Jean Reitan; and a grandchild, Alex Engel.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Summit for their exceptional care and support.
