

Rebecca Ann Cooksey, 66, of Rock Island, IL passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Unity Point Health Trinity Rock Island. Family and friends are welcome to gather at Mike and Shelly Ortega’s home on Saturday, July 25th from 1-4 pm to celebrate Becky’s life. Rebecca was born February 7, 1949 in Hickory Ridge, AR to Merle & Ellen (Slocum) Cooksey. Becky was a beautician for 27 years. She had owned her own shops, including Ye Old Town Beauty Shop in Moline as well as managed the Beauty Salon at Montgomery Wards for many years. She loved to watch movies at home, go to the River Boat, and play Euchre with her family. Her favorite hobby she always said was her two boys Mike & Bobby. She cherished the time spent helping to raise her grandkids and consistently told them to “always stay true to you.” Becky was also very grateful to have such good friends at the Coventry Apartments especially Gladys, Georgianne, & Doug.
Survivors include her 2 sons Michael (Shelly) Ortega, Davenport & Bobby Ortega, Tempe, AZ; 3 grandchildren Hannah Ortega, Blain Samuelson, & Bailey Ortega; a great grandson Mycah Duyvejonck; 4 Sisters Sandra Cooksey, E. Moline, Carla (Jim) Stover, Colona, Melody (Nick) Spicer, TX, & Jacquelynn (John) Donaldson, MS; brother, Bob Cooksey, East Moline, IL; step father Jack Ackley, MS; several nieces & nephews; & her feline friend Mia.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Carol Cooksey, brother Merle Cooksey & great granddaughter MiLynn Duyvejonck.
The family would also like to thank her care giver Diane for providing such loving care to Becky.
