Rich was born on November 19, 1948, in Grayslake, IL to parents Leo and Marie (Blasius) DeMeyer. He graduated from Grayslake Community High School and went on to study diesel and heavy equipment mechanics at Des Moines Area College. Rich worked for his dad’s business, Grayslake Feed Sales, before he started his own extension of the business, Grayslake Feed Sales Outdoor Power Equipment. There he sold and serviced small engine machinery. Rich spent over 40 years building a business he was proud of.
Rich married Marilyn Notson on August 2, 1975. They raised 3 children and shared nearly 45 years together. Marilyn sadly passed away from cancer in 2019. Rich met Elena while attending Rock Island Bible Church. They were both blessed to have a second love, and Rich and Elena married on March 6, 2021.
In his younger years, Rich enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle. He found joy photographing nature, woodworking, exploring trails on his bike, and cheering on the Cubs. “Mr. Fix-It” always had to have a project going. He was a meticulous perfectionist, going as far as getting the ruler out to wrap presents. A love of history made him a lifelong learner, always sure to have a book or an audiobook about a topic that excited him. His favorite way to end the day was with a “Rich-sized” bowl of ice cream.
Rich was baptized in the early 90’s and the Christian faith was a big part of his life. He was always eager to share his faith with those that would listen. The Lord blessed Rich with a fulfilling life and a beautiful family.
Rich is survived by his wife Elena; his children Kristin (Doug) Rowland, Brian (Megan) DeMeyer, and Karen (Zach) Ruding; his grandchildren Zander, Clara, Emersyn, Jordan, and Quinn; his brothers Tom (Mary) DeMeyer and John (Denise) DeMeyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Rich was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn DeMeyer, his parents, and his brother Lee DeMeyer.
