

A gathering to celebrate the life of Richard “Dick” Weeks 77, a resident of Davenport, will be held Monday March 11th from 3p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. In keeping with Richard’s wishes, in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your favorite charity.Richard Ray Weeks was born on May 19, 1935 in Albert Lea, Minn. a son of Kenneth and Verna ( Borland) Weeks. He married Joyce Fagg in November of 1960. He later married Linda McCormick (nee Halberg) in December of 1973. They each preceded him in death.Dick is survived by his daughters Wendy Weeks and her husband Edward Zipper and Jennifer Schueller from his marriage to Joyce; he had a very special relationship with grandson Scott Schueller; his brothers Jack (MaryAnn) Weeks, Bill (June) Weeks, Jim (Pam) Weeks, and his sister Ann (Doug) Englund.He is also survived by his step daughter Cynthia Weeks (nee McCormick) and her family, husband Scott Teasdale, son Thompson and daughter Linnea; his step son James McCormick and his family, wife Jariya, son Jay and daughter Janny; from his marriage to Linda.Dick devoted most of his life to public service. At the time of his death he served as vice president of SCORE Iowa and district director for seven SCORE chapters in eastern Iowa, and had been named District Director of the YearPrior to being named district director, he was chairman of the Quad Cities SCORE Chapter. He had been involved with SCORE for the past eight years.Before his retirement in 2004, Dick was president of Quad City Port Services, Inc., (now owned by his daughter Wendy Weeks) a full service customs broker and freight forwarder headquartered in Davenport. Weeks founded the firm in 1989 and today it represents more than 300 companies in Iowa and Illinois.In recent years, Dick was a literacy advocate through Eastern Iowa Community College’s volunteer program at the West Davenport Center.Prior to forming the customs broker business, Weeks was president of the Quad City Development Group, a consortium of local governmental agencies, businesses and industries responsible for industry recruitment, retention and job creation. In that position, he led the successful efforts to establish the Quad City Foreign Trade Zone and U.S. Port of Entry, forged the first public-private partnership for development in the Quad Cities and helped create the “Quad Cities USA” campaign to better market the metropolitan area to national and international firms.Dick served as director of development with the Iowa Development Commission prior to assuming the Quad City Development post. He earned a business degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo, and served as a member of the U.S. Air National Guard in Fargo, Minneapolis and Des Moines.He was a charter member of Iowa Professional Developers’ Association. He had also served as president of the Davenport Club, and was a long standing member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club.
