Richard Dean Furne Sr.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 27, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Runge. Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to several charities. One of Rich’s wishes was that everyone dress casually or in black and gold for the visitation.

Richard was born September 17, 1948 in Spirit Lake, IA to Gordon and Geraldine Furne. He was united in marriage to Penny Day on July 3, 1971 in Bettendorf. In 1985 he retired from Tri-City was a proud member of Local Union #145 for 47 years.

Rich enjoyed woodworking, Iowa wrestling and was a lifetime Bettendorf Bulldog fan. Those from the community could always count on seeing Rich at Bettendorf football games and wrestling meets. He loved to camp in the mountains of Colorado and swim in the Iowa Great lakes. He loved to tell stories and joke with family and friends. Those closest to Rich will always have a memory from a prank he pulled on them. Most importantly, Rich loved his family and spending time with them.

Those left honoring his memory include his loving wife of 46 years, Penny; children: Richie Jr (fiancé, Kristy Elgas), Robbie and Traci (Mike) Huskey; grandchildren: Chandler Furne, Brady & Carter Huskey, Karsen & Garrett Elgas; brothers: Ervin (Sue), Jim, Brian, Craig (Heather); sisters: Vickie (Jim) McCarthy, Lori (Warren) West and Patty (Brad) Greve. Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Beverly.
