Richard S. Loomis

Richard S. Loomis, 83, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 in Iowa City, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at The Runge Mortuary. Richard Stanley Loomis was born on February 14, 1943 at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to John Stanley Loomis and Wilma Marie (Stump) Loomis. He arrived about 30 minutes after his twin sister, Shirley Gene. He lived in Chicago until the age of 3 when the family moved to Fairfield, Iowa.

Richard attended Logan Elementary School, Pence Junior High School, and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1961. He attended Parson’s College from 1961 to 1962. He left Parson’s college to attend and graduate from the College of Automation in Des Moines. Following graduation he worked for Mill Owners Mutual Insurance in Des Moines.

He married his high school sweetheart, Belinda Brown, in 1963. They moved to Ottumwa where Richard began work for John Deere Ottumwa Works as a Computer Programmer/Analyst. He was transferred to Moline in 1978 and continued to work for John Deere until 1998, a total of 34 years. His love of all things “tech” remained, and he enthusiastically embraced any new gadget.

Richard loved to play golf and played every Saturday morning for years. Following retirement he found more groups who shared this hobby and played severalc times a week. He was very proud of his three “Hole-In-One” trophies. He loved a good card game with family and friends. Over the years, he mastered many different games, Bridge, Cribbage, Euchre and most recently joined a regular Friday night poker game at the Coop where he lived. Richard also enjoyed music, seeing many performers in concert including Louis Armstrong and Elvis Presley. He listened to music every day, and passed this love along to his children.

Richard is survived by his wife, Belinda; his sister, Shirley Weber; a daughter, Penny (Jim) Roberts; a son, Eric (Paula) Loomis; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
