Richard E. Mason

Memorial services for Richard E. Mason, 81, of Davenport, IA, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Kvindherred Cemetery, Calamus, IA. Mr. Mason died on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the Baptist Memorial Hospice Unit, Memphis, TN. Richard was born on January 17, 1928 in Calamus, IA, the son of Peter and Tilla (Rasmussen) Mason. In 1999 he married Joan Staes in Rock Island, IL. Mr. Mason was a member of the Davenport York Rite, Davenport Scottish Rite, Kaaba Shrine, Trinity Lodge, High Twelve, Davenport Moose Lodge, and was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Church. Richard loved seeing new places and new things, and he and Joan traveled extensively. He also enjoyed working in the yard, and was a born engineer, able to build, fix, or repair almost anything and curious about everything. He was a truck driver the majority of his life, a devoted father, a lifelong resident of Davenport, and a truly genuine and good-hearted person.Survivors include – his Wife: Joan of Davenport; a Daughter: Teri of Memphis, TN; 2 Sons: Matt of Atlanta, GA and Kevin of Davenport. He was preceded in death by - his parents; his first wife: Shirley Nichols; 2 sisters: Ruth and Maureen; 2 brothers: Mac and Paul; and cousins: Preston, Arnold, Grace, and Reid.Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital.
