

Robert O. Beeks, Jr., of Bettendorf passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial, with military honors, will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the VA Outpatient Clinic of Bettendorf or the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He was born November 2, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Robert O. (Sr.) and Shirley M. (Kile) Beeks. Bob was a graduate of Bettendorf High School and later from Mount Mercy College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a veteran of the Navy serving during the Vietnam War. On December 26, 1974 he married Barbara Brubaker in Rock Island, Illinois.
Bob authored two books and was co-author of two screenplays. His lifetime career was as a Quality Engineer. He retired from McLaughlin Body Co. in Moline in 2002.
He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church and was especially fond of Jesus Country Church. He loved to fish and he hunted with his family in younger years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara and son Jonathan Beeks both of Bettendorf; adopted daughters Veronica Bayse and Amber Gylling of Grand Junction, Colorado and their families; brother Charles Beeks of San Antonio, Texas; sister Rebecca Cady of Coal Valley, Illinois; his mother, Shirley M. Beeks of Bettendorf; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Merlin and Vivian Brubaker of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dale Beeks and his father, Robert O. Beeks, Sr.
