

Robert J. Howell, 85, of Davenport, formerly of Lakeland, Florida, passed away with his loving family by his side at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Burial will take place at a later date at Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen, PA, next to his wife.
Robert was born in 1933 to Hazel and Harold Howell of Jenkins Township, PA. He was united in marriage to Alice Marie LaFrance on August 14, 1954. Alice passed away in 2007. Robert had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force from June of 1950 thru October 1980. He served in France, Germany, Vietnam, Alaska, and other US tours including the Pentagon, D.C. He was awarded numerous medals throughout his career, some of which were: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Star, Vietnam Service medal with 4 stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Lieutenant Colonel Howell was Director of Readiness for Air Force Communications Command when he retired after 30 years of service. After he retired from Yellow Freight, he loved to spend his time hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and his “grand-dogs”
He is survived by his three children: Pam Drinkard, Lori Jensen; Brad (Deb) Howell, five grandchildren: Joel, Jennifer, Kyle, Maizie, and Ryan; and eight great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Alice; daughter Susan; and his parents.
