

Funeral services for Robert W. McCoy, 84, of DeWitt, IA will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McCoy passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his residence. With the Lord’s help, he courageously fought heart and lung disease. Bob was born on November 11, 1930 in Davenport, the son of Hilbert and Nadine (Thorndike) McCoy. He joined the United States Air Force in 1949. On February 23, 1950, he married Gladys Koschate. They were blessed with four children. Bob worked at Alcoa for 25 years as a truck repair mechanic. After retiring in 1975, he moved to Black River Falls, WI and resided there for 5 years before moving to DeWitt. For 40 years, he was an avid snow mobile rider. Among other activities, he enjoyed camping, traveling, and jet skiing. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, especially old hymns. He was also a walker at Northpark Mall for 10 years. Bob was an attending member of Crossroads Independent Baptist Church in Davenport. He is survived by his Wife of 65 years: Gladys McCoy of DeWitt; a Daughter: Lisa Heller of Melrose, WI; two Sons: Randy McCoy of Davenport, Greg (Sandra) McCoy of Davenport; six Grandchildren: Chad (Rhonda) Bekkum, Jessica Bekkum, Jason (Heather) McCoy, Matthew McCoy, Nichole Heller, Makayla Heller; 14 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-great Grandchildren; Sister-in-Law: Nancy McCoy; numerous nieces and nephews; and several members of the Thorndike family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Daughter: Rennie “Rene” Bekkum; Sisters: Wilma McCoy, Dolly (Elmer) Hebeler, Dorthy (Dick) Durham, Betty Jane (Gordon) Mullins; Brothers: Albert (Betty) McCoy Jr., James “Jim” McCoy; Sister-in-Law: Beverly (John) Serrano. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association.
