

Dr. Bob earned a Ph.D. ‘84 in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa, and was active in a variety of activities until death. Dr. Bob received his BS ‘67 and MS ‘69 from Indiana University. He conducted research and did statistics on wrestling nutrition for the College of Sports Medicine. Bob was a Master Gardener in Johnson County for twenty-five years. He also served as a Board Member of both the League of American Bicyclists and the Bicyclists of Iowa City. Dr. Oppliger had more than 50 publications, including co-writing “Teaching Your Child to Ride a Bicycle”. Bob was a volunteer reader at Grant Wood Elementary, a consultant to the NCAA, a referee for little league soccer, and an avid cycler and bike advocate.
He is survived by his siblings, Norman Oppliger of St. Louis MO, Dorothy Kenyon of Sarasota, FL and Margaret (Jim) Boyd of Sarasota Fl. Also surviving Uncle Bob are his nephews Christopher (Jen) Oppliger and Jonathan Boyd and nieces Wendy Kryah, Jaime (Matt) McAlear and Chennin (Russ) Carlson, a cousin and numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He left many dear friends as well.
