

Robert was born in Chicago on December 20, 1951. He was the son of Robert and Vivian (Kennedy) Smith. He served in all branches of the military and was a proud veteran. He had worked as a foreman for Burlington Northern Railroad for over 31 years, retiring in 2007.
Robert enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, playing cards (especially Euchre), cribbage, watching old Western shows and war movies on tv, mowing his yard, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He had a gift for giving to others and together with his wife, Cheryl, volunteered at the Blue Grass Community Center for all events.
Those left to cherish his legacy include his wife, Cheryl, children: Robert Smith, Dubuque; Kari (Ivan) Divino, Charleston, SC; Jeremy (Karen) Smith, Dubuque; and stepson, Nick (Courtney) Dohse, Maquoketa, grandchildren: Jacob, Mira, Colton, Rowan, Aria, Landon and Saylah; great grandchildren: Everly, Maeve, Emma, Malacai and Mina; siblings: Penny (Dave) Schmerbach, Dubuque, Shannon (Dave) Felderman, Delhi, IA, stepsister, Pat Houston, St. Peterburg, FL. Joyce Budde, East Dubuque and Judy (Dick) Swan, Dubuque and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, son, Billy and step brothers-in-law, Doug Houston and Keith Budde preceded him in death.
