

Funeral services for Roger L. Mackey, 59, of Eldridge, will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Davenport American Legion Post #26. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mortuary. Mr. Mackey passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 at his residence in Eldridge, after a 3 year battle with cancer.Roger Lee Mackey was born on December 4, 1949 in Monmouth,IL, the son of Grant and Ruth (Polson) Mackey. He married Nancy Croxton on February 20, 2009 in Eldridge. Roger lived in Knox, Warren and Henderson Counties. He graduated from Willamsfield High School and was an apprentice millwright before entering the service. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Belvoir, VA. Upon returning home he worked on the Addleman and Chandler farms and also operated a bulldozing and long haul trucking business. He eventually located near Eldridge, IA where he owned a cement recycling business which he operated until his death.Roger enjoyed his time with his friends at the Flying J’s Liars Club and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife: Nancy of Eldridge; a daughter: Kathy (Bryan) White of Oquawka, IL; his mother: Ruth Mackey of Monmouth, IL; a step-daughter: Debbie Babboni of Sturgis, MO; four grandchildren: Casey, Reagan, Anthony and Hannah; a sister: Susan Wade of Wataga, IL; a brother: George of Aledo, IL; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Lester “Sam”. Memorials may be made to the family.
