Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Runge Mortuary. There will be a private family memorial service. Online tributes may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Rusty was born on May 9, 1943 to Martin and Lena (Werlinger) Gabel in Shakopee, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Stone in 1964 and they later divorced. He then married Fran Childers. He retired from Sears Manufacturing after 38 years of service. Rusty loved his job and took great pride in his work there as a machinist, especially his “government” jobs in between his “plant tours”.
Those missing him greatly are his loving wife of 26 years, Fran Gabel; children: Mary Gabel of Davenport, Brenda (Kevin Pingel) Gabel of Bettendorf, Rusty (Melissa Hill) Gabel of Davenport, Michele (Rick) Percy of Moline, and Jason Gabel of Bettendorf; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings: Jan Mosset of Des Moines, Mary J. Dirk of Bismarck, North Dakota, Irene McCoy of Memphis, Missouri, Dottie Simes of Bismarck, North Dakota, Donna (Doug) Janelli of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Lorraine (Jeff) Kohler of Bismarck, North Dakota, Jim Gabel of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Randy Gabel of Williston, North Dakota; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and fishing buddy, Bob Gabel; sister, Emma Jean Rinehart; brother, Richard Gabel; and sister, Frances Gabel.
