Ronald L. Malmen, 78, of Bettendorf passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 unexpectedly at home. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be left at www.rungemortuary.com. He was born August 1, 1939 in Moline, IL son of Duane and Edna (Kahl) Malmen. After serving in the Air Force Ronald had a full scholarship at Florida State University, where he received his bachelor degree. He was united in marriage to Karen O’Connell on November 6, 1965 in Davenport, IA. He worked at Big River Equipment for 45 years and eventually became president of the company. He was an avid sports fan, especially Iowa Hawkeyes, and liked to bowl, fish and play golf. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karen; son, Brian (Patty) Malmen, Bettendorf; daughter, Julie Logan, Bettendorf; grandchildren: Dakota Logan, Montana Malmen, Trinity Malmen and Sophie Malmen and sister, Janet McVietty, Orion, IL. In addition to his parents Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Dale.
