Visitation will be on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 12 – 2pm at Weerts Funeral Home; funeral service to follow at 2pm. She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Memorials in Rosie's name may be made to a charity of your choosing; Rosie had so many that she donated to over the years.
Roselyn was born August 22, 1929 in Taos, Missouri to Leo and Zita (Grothoff) Eggemann. Rosie and her four sisters enjoyed their early years surrounded by relatives, including a cousin on a neighboring farm with whom they kept lifelong close ties. Rosie’s family later moved to Davenport where Rosie attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Davenport High school.
While roller-skating with friends at the old rink on Brady Street, Rosie got her first sight of James Lyngholm, a handsome soldier looking for a ride home on the last leg of his return from WWII. Through mutual friends, the two met and began dating. Since Jim had been drafted before finishing high school, he joined Rosie’s class where they attended senior Prom and graduated together in 1947.
Jim and Rosie married in 1949, and were soon busy raising a family of nine children. For seven decades, their home was the gathering place for all kinds of celebrations such as holidays, birthdays and graduations. Rosie’s parents, sisters, nieces and nephews were regularly invited over for a 4th of July cookout and baseball game. Rosie welcomed friends of her children with a warm smile and full cookie jar. Scout troops built parade floats in the driveway. Grandchildren loved to spend time at grandma’s house, even without their parents. One of her grandsons was recently married in her backyard.
Rosie had incredible energy and enthusiasm for life. When her adult children started planning vacations, she was all in. She slept in tents, hiked, rode bikes, and went cross-country skiing. Though she had never learned to swim, she rode in canoes, rowboats and sailboats. She loved traveling and spending time with family and friends, old and new.
She is survived by a sister Esther, sister-in-law Joan, children Dan Lyngholm, Karen (Ray) Boston, Tom (Pat) Lyngholm, Margaret Lyngholm, Nancy (Tom Yencsik) Lyngholm, Mary Pullen, Linda (Lee Bendickson) Lyngholm, Anna Lyngholm, daughter-in-law Mickey, twenty grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Rosie is preceded and welcomed into her new home by her husband Jim, her son Michael, sisters Mary, Lucille, Edna, and her parents Leo and Zita.
