

Roy Flachs, or Mushroom as he was known, 63, passed away, August 13, 2015 at his home. A memorial will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Woomert Park in Princeton, IA and a Celebration of Life will follow at the Princeton Community Center.
Roy was born on May 16, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Erma (Budde) Flachs. He married Ginger Cutkomp in 1973. They were inseparable for 46 years.
Mushroom was a man of distinct style. He was a husband, father, antique dealer, musician, poet, artist, martial artist, and writer with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He was a multifaceted jewel and a god among men.
Mushroom had an amazing antique knowledge. You could go to Mushroom and ask him anything about what you had that was old and he'd know something about it. He helped many people with knowing what to do with their family treasures. Mushroom had an appearance on American Pickers television show as an expert, and was in one of their commercials. Mushroom and Ginger were owners of Rolling Thunder and Heart Antiques in Rock Island, Illinois, Abraxas and Ruby Tuesday, in Iowa City, Rainbow Bridge, Davenport, and most currently and still operating Big River Antiques in LeClaire, Iowa. He chose all the music at Big River Antiques where people loved his choices.
Mushroom was a Tai Chi teacher and martial artist in Kung Fu and Aikido.
He loved to draw cartoons, flat cats with chalk, and elaborate pictures in pen and ink in a series he called Pizza Box Art. He also loved to play guitar and could play many other instruments. Mushroom would play lead guitar with friends and bands.
He was preceded in death by his father Mel Flachs and mother, Erma Flachs. He leaves behind his wife Ginger Flachs, son Oden Flachs, daughter in law Jenny (Black) Flachs, sister, Linda Barnet and brother in law, Rev. Dave Barnet who married Ginger and Mushroom, and his son Oden and wife, Jenny.
