Russell Lee Ashby, 78, of Lowden, Iowa, died at his home on Friday, July 19, 2013, surrounded by loving family members. Visitation for Mr. Ashby will be on Tuesday, July 23 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Services will be held at the mortuary on Wednesday, July 24 at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at the Dixon, Iowa Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Russell Ashby was born on December 12, 1934, to Raymond and Olive (Sales) Ashby of Centerville, Iowa. He married Donna J. Puckett on October 2, 1987, in Las Vegas. He was enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1303 of Rock Island, Illinois, and the Dixon Legion Post #0353. He was employed for 38 years at Nichols Homeshield.
Russell enjoyed hosting cookouts for his family and friends. He loved camping and fishing. He was well-respected for the pride he always took in his appearance.
Those left to honor the memory of Mr. Ashby are his wife of 26 years, Donna, children Russ Ashby, Jr. of California, Scott and Kelly Ashby of Park View, Carol and Randy Price of Orion, Illinois, Toni and Ray Rylas of Dunedin, Florida, Nan and Larry Olson of Davenport, Ramona Lacienski of Davenport, Scott and Caroline Puckett of Davenport, Taurus Puckett of New Liberty, Iowa, and Dawn and Ryan Pitts of Grand Mound; brothers Ernie (Dorothy) Ashby of Davenport, Johnnie (Mae) Wright of Davenport, and Hershel (Jo) Wilson of Roanoke, Virginia; sister Rosamary (Roger) Schwerdtfeger; brother-in-law Steve Brammann and son-in-law Jim Holmes, both of Davenport; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends; Donna Ashby and Jean Ashby, the mothers of his children, his friend and caretaker Delores Griffith, and his faithful canine companions, Go-T and Tipper.
Preceding Russell in death are his parents, his brothers Bill Ashby and Don Wright, his brother-in-law Dick Brammann, and his beloved daughter, Pam Holmes.
