

Ruth D. Hill, 80, of Davenport, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Saturday, June 18, 2016, after a brief illness with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.rungemortuary.com. Ruth was born on April 18, 1936, in Dexter, Iowa, to Clyde and Sarah (Wilder) Lawson. She was the youngest of seven children. She was born on the family farm and attended country schools. She graduated from Stuart High School in Stuart, Iowa. Ruth married Larry Benton; he passed away in 1955. She later married Gary Vorrath. The couple divorced, and Ruth then married James Hill, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was very close to all her family and friends. Ruth worked for sixteen years as a bartender at the Probstei Inn in Davenport. Ruth’s friends were important to her and became her extended family. She enjoyed growing flowers, and was very particular about them. Ruth is survived by her children, Terry (Lynne) Benton, Durant, Iowa, Douglas (Margarita) Vorrath, Denison, Iowa, and Gloria (Jeff) Martin, Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Silvia Williams, Stuart, Iowa. In addition to two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob, Fred, Roy, and Gene; and a sister, Esther.
