Ruth "Ruthie" Holmes

Ruth “Ruthie” P. Holmes, 91, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 6, 2014. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth was born on July 21, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Jesse and Pearl (Hummel) Odem. She was united in marriage to George W. Holmes on October 13, 1946 in Davenport. He passed away on December 13, 2012.

Ruthie was a school crossing guard for 12 years at Washington School in Davenport. She was an Auxiliary Member (Pink Lady) at Genesis East and volunteered at the hospital. As a member at First Presbyterian Church for 30 years she was forever making coffee for church functions. She was always friendly with a good sense of humor and loved to visit.

Those celebrating her life include two sons, Kerry Holmes, Bettendorf and David Holmes, Coralville, IA; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brother, Keith Odem.
