Saxon Powell

Saxon was born June 3, 1994, in Davenport, Iowa, to Brandi Powell and Jay Martin.

Saxon’s life was so much more than the battles he fought. He was a son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend who was deeply loved. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help someone in need, even while fighting battles of his own.

Saxon worked in landscaping and cleaning rental properties, but some of the most meaningful work he did was volunteering with QC Harm Reduction. His dedication to helping others struggling with addiction undoubtedly touched and saved lives. Even during some of the hardest chapters of his own life, Saxon was still capable of showing compassion to someone else who needed it. That is a part of him his family is incredibly proud of and hopes will be remembered.

Addiction may have taken pieces of Saxon from those who loved him long before his passing, but it never erased the person underneath it. Those who knew and loved him know how complicated that battle was. His struggles do not define the entirety of his life, nor do they erase the love, memories, laughter, kindness, and moments shared with him.

Saxon is survived by his mother, Brandi Powell of Davenport, Iowa; his father, Jay Martin of Nebraska ;his bonus dad, Ben Burson Sr. of Knob Noster, Missouri; his grandmothers, Angie Powell and Jean K. Martin; his siblings, Taylor (Christian) Ingram of Moline, Illinois, Ashleigh Burson of Bellevue, Iowa, and Benjamin Burson of Davenport, Iowa; his niece, Vivianna, and nephew, Jaxon. He is also survived by his aunt, Corie (BJ) Bauman of DeWitt, Iowa; his uncles, Anthony Powell and Matthew Powell of Davenport, Iowa; as well as extended family and friends who loved him.

Saxon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Terri Murphy and Rick Powell, and his uncle, Jim Martin. There is comfort in knowing that he now rests alongside family who went before him.

His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. We wish there had been more time, more healing, and more chances for tomorrow. Instead, we will carry Saxon forward—in our stories, in our memories, in the people whose lives he touched, and in the love that remains even after someone is gone.

A visitation honoring Saxon’s life will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary and Crematory in Davenport, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember Saxon, share memories, offer support to one another, and say their final goodbyes.

Saxon, we hope you have finally found the peace that was so difficult to find here. You were loved more than you knew, and you will be missed more than words can say.

Rest peacefully, Saxon. Your battle is over, but your story and the love we have for you are not.
