Sharon was a lifelong lover of God, people, good food, Turner Classic Movies, traveling and nature. She grew up helping her parents, Gerald and Viola (Mason) Meyers, who owned a grocery store on West 3rd Street, which later was the location of Harris Pizza #3. She worked as a nurse's aide before marrying Wayne Fredrick Dettmann on June 6, 1964. She then worked in the cafeteria at Williams Junior High. She assisted with her mother's bridal cake business and sold vegetables at the Davenport Farmers Market from her mother’s large garden.
She was well-known at the Davenport Farmers' Market as Cookie Lady's Best and served as Market Master. She developed a diabetic cookie to accommodate her mother’s diabetes. She worked briefly with Per Mar Security before retiring in 2011 to care for her husband, Wayne. In 2013, after 49 1/2 years of marriage, Wayne passed away.
Sharon is survived by her children, Lee Ray (Michele) of Colorado, Dorie Ann of Davenport, and her grandson, Alex Karl of Arizona. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marcia Killien of Washington, two nieces, and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Dettmann; her brother, Milton Meyers; and her beloved parents, Viola (Mason) and Gerald Meyers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Arbor Day Foundation or The Boys and Girls Club of America.
