Shirley Elaine Haddock Denny, 95, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on June 20th, 2025. A visitation will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 24th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1401 N Perry St, Davenport, Iowa 52803. Following the funeral Shirley will be buried with her husband at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Shirley was born on January 24, 1930, in Springfield, Illinois, to Raymond and Vera (Bronson) Haddock. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1947. On February 6, 1948, she was married to Dick Gauf and had two sons. She was united in marriage to Marvin Denny on October 28th, 1967, in Moline, Illinois. On May 6, 2007, Marvin passed away leaving Shirley a widow. Shirley was the Arsenal Transportation Department supervisor and worked for the government for 21 years before her retirement in 1975. Shirley had a strong faith and deep love for Jesus. She was a devoted member of First Baptist of Davenport for 78 years. Countless hours of her life were spent in service to the church. Shirley served on boards and committees, coordinated the food pantry, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and long-term member of her circle.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons; Paul D. Gauf (Barbara), Chesapeake, VA, and Harold Douglas Gauf, Phoenix, AZ, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Denny, parents Raymond and Vera, stepdaughter Ila Kittrell, Amory, MS, and ex-husband Dick Gauf.
