Shirley Swingle, 95 of Davenport, Iowa, died April 20th, 2023 at Senior Star Assisted Living. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, where her friends will gather an hour prior to service time. Burial will be held at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital in Iowa City.
Shirley was born in 1927 in Wichita, Kansas to Arthur and Verah Johnson. From age 11, she was raised in Des Moines by her father’s sister, her aunt Esther Johnson. Initially inspiring to become a cosmetologist, she attended Beauty School for almost two years. On May 19, 1951 she married Robert Swingle in Davenport. To that marriage they had a son Steven Swingle, who preceded her in death May 20, 2014.
Shirley worked in sales for Supreme TV and Appliance and Zeglin’s Home TV and Appliance for a total of 32 years, and from which she retired in 2004. She was a member of Riverside Methodist Church, Moline, and enjoyed doing yard work and having lunch with friends. Shirley cherished her time spent with a special friend, Paul John Delmar.
She is survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and son, she was preceded in death by her aunt Esther Johnson.
