May 17, 1954 – September 2, 2025
Thomas Richard Hoffmann, 71, of rural Muscatine, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Blue Grass. Cremation rites were granted, and a celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dixon American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Dixon American Legion or a favorite charity.
Tom was born May 17, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Allan and Jeanette (Bohnsack) Hoffmann. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1972 and served his country in the United States Army. Over the years, Tom maintained lasting relationships from both high school and the Army and his friends will miss that connection.
Tom was the owner of Hoffmann Construction for 45 plus years. Many houses and farms in the area bear the mark of his talents as a carpenter including his current home he built for himself and Jolene. There was literally no job too big or too small that Tom wouldn’t tackle. He was very particular and had a keen eye for detail. Tom was a hard worker and continued working hard and keeping busy with ‘non-paying’ jobs at home. He believed there wasn’t any repair or task he couldn’t do himself with the right amount of hard labor and maybe a caulking gun and MOST of the time he was right.
Tom and Jolene Buckles-Priest were married on April 10, 1992, at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church and Tom became a fun stepdad to Andrew Priest.
Tom was an accomplished hunter and the annual deer hunt at “The 90” was an activity he looked forward to and prepared for all year. Even if the hunt was ultimately unsuccessful, he loved being outdoors, observing nature, and the camaraderie with his hunting buddies. Above all else, Tom loved being a Grandpa to Mason (his best buddy) and Papa to Taya (his little sweetheart). Grandpa Tom connected with them on their level; he was their playmate and partner in crime. He would do almost any crazy thing to make them laugh.
Tom was opinionated, stubborn, generous and kind; a true one-of-a-kind guy who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife Jolene, stepson Andrew Priest of Blue Grass, grandchildren Mason and Taya Priest, Mother Jeanette Hoffmann of Walcott and sister Jan (Kevin) Garland of Dixon. His father, Allan Hoffmann; brother, Richard Hoffmann; and in-laws Donna and Richard Buckles preceded him in death.
