

Obituary of Velma R. MassickVelma Ruth Massick, 92, of Davenport, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 am Wednesday in the chapel at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport following visitation from 10:00 am to service time at the Mortuary. She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport.Velma was born on March 16, 1918, on a farm near North English, Iowa, a daughter of Louis C. and Beatrice M. Dietze. She married Gerald P. Tower in Cedar Rapids in 1938. She married John Massick in Davenport in 1948.After graduating Valedictorian of her class at Millersburg High, she attended Cornell College. In the 1940s, she worked at Fruehauf Trailer in Cedar Rapids, then Victor Animatograph in Davenport. She was a homemaker and very loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and fishing.Velma will be deeply missed by husband John Massick; brother Carroll Dietze, Costa Mesa, California; sons Charles (Elizabeth) Tower, Davenport, and Phil Massick, Walcott; daughters Jean Tower Richards, Bountiful, Utah, and Susan Massick, Davenport; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association.The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Good Samaritan for their devotion and care given to Velma during her stay.
