Vera L. Carlin

Visitation will be at Runge Mortuary from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 24th. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Church in Blue Grass on Saturday, June 25th at 10 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to Mass.

Vera was born January 24, 1921 in Blue Grass, Iowa to John and Alma (Kautz) Daurer. She married Gerald Carlin, May 3, 1944. They were blessed with six daughters.

Mrs. Carlin graduated from Davenport High School in 1939 and later from Bussell’s Cosmetology School. She worked in Davenport and later had a salon in her home in Blue Grass. She was a talented baker and cake decorator for many years in the Quad City area.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, Mary’s Angels, Blue Grass Senior Citizen Group, and Plus 60 Club. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed playing cards, BINGO, and creating her own greeting cards. She treasured spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren’s activities.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Church, Blue Grass Volunteer Fire Department, or a favorite charity.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters and their families, Barbara (Mike) Baumann, Las Cruces, NM; Beverly (Jim) Marti, Venice, FL; Bonnie (Dick) Strong, Blue Grass, IA; Betty (Ron) Mann, Bettendorf, IA; Bernice (Ron) Beckman, Pagosa Springs, CO; and Brenda (Kevin) Beck, Davenport, IA. Grandchildren, Tracy (Manny) Mathews; Shelly (Tom) Linehan; Melissa (John) Trimble; Stephanie Baumann; Amanda (Nicholas) Hughes; Andrea (Brian) Caldwell; Nicole (Chad) Hagen; Natalea Poston; Jacob, Justin and Jared Beck; 3 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.

The family wishes to express great appreciation to the caregivers from Home Instead and the wonderful staff at Jersey Ridge Place for their loving care and compassion.
