Viola Mae Martin

Viola (“Vi Brown”) Martin, 79, of Davenport passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. A memorial gathering will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 from 3-5 pm at the Knights of Pythias Hall, 1116 W. 3rd Street in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. She was born 8/22/32 in Winterset, Iowa, a daughter of Harold and Fern Younker. She graduated from the Macksburg, Iowa High School. On 1/30/51, she married Robert Brown. He preceded her in death. She moved to Davenport in 1967.

Vi was a homemaker and employed as a mixologist for twenty years. She enjoyed making crafts, playing games, and spending time with her family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was loved by all.

Survivors include daughters: Beverly, Linda, Shirley, and Peggy; sons David, John (Bessie), James (Joanne), and Russell; daughter-in-law Arrie Brown of Texas; 23 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Younker of Knoxville, Iowa and sister, Ruby Grinstead of Chicago; and special friend, Jerry Cedillo.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and a son, Roger in September 2011.
